چکیده
Abstract. The restrictions implemented to contain the spread of COVID-19 pandemic during 2020 and 2021 have forced university-level educators from around world seek alternatives residential physical field trips that constitute a fundamental pillar Geoscience programmes. field-mapping course for second-year Geology BSc students Cardiff University was replaced with virtual mapping set in same area as previous years, Esla Nappe (Cantabrian Zone, NW Spain). designed aim providing methodology employed mapping, including such skills gathering discrete data at stops located along five daily itineraries. Data included bedding attitude, outcrop descriptions certain degree ambiguity, photographs and/or sketches, panoramic photos, fossil images. were provided through georeferenced KMZ files Google Earth. Students asked keep notebook, define lithological units mappable scale, identify large structures thrust faults folds aid age estimations fossils, construct geological map on hard-copy topographic map, draw stratigraphic column cross sections, plot stereonet perform structural analysis. exercise allowed successful training diverse skills. In light assessment reports student surveys, series improvements future is considered. Though incapable replacing course, could be used preparation trip.

snow runoff modeling using meteorological, geological and remotely sensed data
geographic information and analysis provide a wide range of data and techniques to monitor and manage natural resources. as an important case, in arid and semi-arid areas, water management is critical for both local governance and citizens. as a result, the estimation of water potential brought by snowmelt runoff and rainfalls seems to be very useful and important for these areas. hydrological ...
متن کاملGeological Field Mapping
A map showing the distribution of rock units and structures across a region representation, usually on a plane surface is termed a geological map. A map showing the occurrence of structural features across a region, the distribution of rock units, and their type and age relationship is termed a geological map. Geological field mapping is the process of selecting an area of interest and identify...
متن کاملMapping monthly rainfall data in Galicia (NW Spain) using inverse distances and geostatistical methods
In this paper, results from three different interpolation techniques based on Geostatistics (ordinary kriging, kriging with external drift and conditional simulation) and one deterministic method (inverse distances) for mapping total monthly rainfall are compared. The study data set comprised total monthly rainfall from 1998 till 2001 corresponding to a maximum of 121 meteorological stations ir...
متن کاملMapping Root Zone Soil Moisture Using Remotely Sensed Optical Imagery
Field-based soil moisture measurements are cumbersome. Remote sensing techniques based on active or passive microwave data have limitations. This paper presents and validates a new method based on land surface energy balances using remotely sensed optical data ~including thermal infrared!, which allows field and landscape-scale mapping of soil moisture depth-averaged through the root zone of ex...
متن کاملScale dependence in habitat selection: the case of the endangered brown bear (Ursus arctos) in the Cantabrian Range (NW Spain)
Animals select habitat resources at multiple spatial scales. Thus, explicit attention to scale dependency in species–habitat relationships is critical to understand the habitat suitability patterns as perceived by organisms in complex landscapes. Identification of the scales at which particular environmental variables influence habitat selection may be as important as the selection of variables...
